Walmart Canada CEO, Shelley Broader, brings years of retail experience to her new role. From the C-suite, Broader has operated the Delhaize Group’s Kash N’ Karry chain, Sweetbay, and the world’s largest craft retailer, Michael’s. Broader puts her background in finance to good use both in her professional career and her volunteer work, where she is involved with the boards of Raymond James Financial Inc, the H. Shelley Broader is President and CEO of Walmart Canada. She heads a growing chain of 329 stores nationwide, employing 85,000 Canadians and serving more than one million customers each day. Shelley’s career spans more than twenty years in the North American retail sector. Shelley was most recently Chief Merchandising Officer for Walmart Canada, a role she took on in 2010. She was previously Senior Vice-President, South Division, of Sam’s Club – Walmart’s U.S. based warehouse-merchandise subsidiary. Prior to joining Walmart, Shelley was President and COO at Michaels, an international chain of arts and crafts stores. Before that, she held several leadership positions at Hannaford Bros., including President and Chief Operating Officer of Kash n’ Karry and later President and CEO of Sweetbay Supermarkets. Shelley is an alumnus of Washington State University. She started her career in the investment banking sector where she focused on the U.S. supermarket industry. Shelley sits on Walmart’s Global Council of Women Leaders.
