Margot M. Micallef

Margot Micallef exemplifies the proverb “when you reach the top, keep climbing”. This mother, lawyer, philanthropist, educator, and entrepreneur is living proof that women can do it all. After early success as Partner at Russell and DuMoulin and then as SVP at Shaw Communications, Margot became a trailblazer; founding Oliver Capital Partners, a private equity investment and advisory firm. Margot has been appointed as a Queen’s Counsel and received the Canadian Women in Communications’ Award for Excellence in Leadership. She has served on the boards of The Alberta Ballet, CanWest Global Communications Inc. and ENMAX, and she is Chair & CEO of Vista Broadcast Group, among others. She ALSO makes regular appearances on CBC News Now. Margot’s determination and her flare for entrepreneurialism have driven her to remarkable success; proving that there truly is no ceiling on success.

Ms. Margot M. Micallef, Q.C. is founder and President of Oliver Capital Partners Inc., a private equity investment and advisory firm offering corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions advisory services to public and private companies. Oliver’s portfolio companies include, investments in broadcasting, publishing, fast food and food manufacturing.

Ms Micallef is also an Adjunct Professor in governance and ethics for the MBA Program at the University of Alberta and is on the Faculty of the Directors College, a joint venture between McMaster University and the Conference Board of Canada.

Prior to founding Oliver Capital Partners Inc., Ms. Micallef was a Senior Vice-President of Shaw Communications Inc., in Calgary, Alberta; a Partner with Russell and DuMoulin (now Fasken Martineau DuMoulin) in Vancouver, British Columbia; and was a co-instructor for the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia.

Ms. Micallef was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 2002. And in 2009 she was a recipient of an Excellence in Leadership Award from the Canadian Women in Communications.

Ms. Micallef has served on a number of public and private company boards. She currently serves: as the Chair & CEO of Vista Broadcast Group Inc.; sits on the board of CanWest Global Communications Inc.; ENMAX Corporation where she Chairs the Corporate Governance Committee; Cambrian House Inc., and Subway Developments 2000 Inc. where she is also the Executive Chair and Development Agent. In addition, Ms. Micallef is active in her community through fund raising initiatives which in the past have included: The Alberta Ballet, The Alberta Ballet School of Dance, the HR MacMillan Planetarium, Homes of Hope and the Intensive Care Foundation of Alberta. Currently she serves as the Co-Chair of the Alberta fundraising initiative for the Canadian Museum of Human Rights. She is also on the Board of Directors of Canadian Women in Communications and the Radio Council of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters.
